Phyllis Peckar Clamage
For many years I have worked with papers I have made, as well as with handmade and other unusual papers from around the world. I have taught papermaking, bookbinding, and artist's journals. I draw and paint on canvas, and print on fabric and paper.
My recent monoprints are on silk and echoed on Arches or handmade Japanese paper. Brightly colored and joyful, these works use the interplay of layered geometric shapes, like the square, with drawn elements. There is rhythm, harmony, and tonal layers. The tension between textures, colors, shapes, and lines provides a lively tempo. I feel I am in a world of visual Music.
My work has received numerous awards and has been widely exhibited in shows and galleries in the Northeast, including the Aldrich Museum, Silvermine Guild, Brookfield Craft Center, and the Bruce Museum. I am also in many private and corporate collections, including Champion International, Credit Suisse, IBM and Aetna Insurance.
I have been an instructor at the New York Botanical Garden, Silvermine, New Britain Museum and others.
