Art/Place is a non-profit, artist-run gallery that has been in existence for more than 35 years. It features a new show by one or two members every month and several group shows a year. The members enjoy offering a taste of the art world to members of our community through solo or group exhibits, lectures, art talks, workshops, demonstrations and critiques.
Greenwich resident,
Lynne Arovas, has a B.A. in psychology and a minor in art from Arcadia University. Her art studies include Silvermine School of Art, Eddie Nino Art School, and currently the Rowayton Arts Center.
She has exhibited in numerous juried, group, and solo shows. She is a member of the Artists Collective of Westport, Greenwich Arts Society, Stamford Art Association, and Rowayton Arts Center. She has won prizes for her work and was a finalist for two pieces in the Artist’s Magazine 33rd Annual Art Competition.
Lynne says, "...Arranging expressive designs of nervous energy in a contained, structured way is for me a very calming and almost meditative experience. There is satisfaction placing “chaos” in order, and excitement combining these contrasting elements into a dynamic composition. Emotions, nature, and color inspire me and are often the intertwining themes in my work. My goal for a collage is reached when I am finally content with the color harmony, pattern relation, dimension created and emotions/thoughts expressed.”
Julie Leff studied art as an undergraduate at Yale but didn’t begin painting professionally until 2001. Since then, her work has appeared in many solo and group shows in New York and Connecticut, and is in many private collections in the US, Europe and Asia.
Julie says, " My preferred medium is oil paint on canvas and my subjects are primarily florals, still lifes, abstracts, and portraits. I paint for myself, for my love of color and form, but in a way that invites others to experience the beauty I see in the world."
George
Radwan grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Fairfield, CT a year ago. He graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles with a BFA in Advertising Design. After graduation, he worked for more than a decade as an art director in various Madison Avenue, New York advertising agencies and abroad. Today, he is a Senior Project Manager at VCA Inc., a custom architectural woodworking and furniture company based in Northampton, MA.
George says this Art/Place show is his first exhibit. He states that he is a multi-media artist and all of his subjects are made with wood, rusted metal, glass, cement, plaster. He hand-makes every component, including hinges, latches, tiny windows and locks. He strives for “believability, credibility, and incredulity”. Currently he is working on a series of small, mixed-media sculptures using wire, concrete, plaster and sand.
