Previous Exhibition: An Abstract Odyssey
The public is invited to a reception at Art/Place Gallery on Sunday, October 3 from 2 to 5 pm. This is a solo show, “An Abstract Odyssey”, by artist member, Jeffrey Starkes. It includes a talk by the artist. Masks are required.
The show runs from September 27 through October 24, Art/Place Gallery shares space with Fairfield Theater Company and is located at 70 Sanford Street, Fairfield, CT.
Jeff presents new paintings that explore the power and possibilities of abstract art. In a colorful and highly varied collection of work, he shows his willingness to experiment with both subject and approach while maintaining a consistent style that balances forethought and freedom.
Following a long career as an art director and graphic designer, Jeffrey Starkes now applies his time and talents to producing highly colored abstract oil paintings. Over the past twelve years he has developed a unique style that combines careful control with randomness. Employing bold, unconventional color palettes, his work is characterized by dynamic arrangements of torn shapes, hard edges, and the illusion of a layered spatial depth achieved through his use of transparency.
Jeff’s abstract paintings have been displayed at galleries and exhibitions throughout Connecticut. His work has received critical acclaim and has attracted a growing number of collectors. He has a BFA degree from Paier College, lives and works in West Haven, Connecticut.
