Westport, CT, July 1, 2021 — The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome Diane Pollack as its guest art exhibitor for the month of July, at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place. Diane is exhibiting a series of works from her “Handmaidens” series.
Diane often combines printmaking, collage, ink markers, and hand and machine stitching to create works which focus on matriarchal history. Dance, rituals, and women's work are often the themes of these mixed media works on paper. Some of her artwork, including her works on exhibit at the Book Shop, incorporate clay “handmaidens”, which are offered as a source for meditation and prayer.
Diane has exhibited widely in Connecticut, New York and Arizona. A champion of supporting the arts in her region, she serves as curator at the Bruce S. Kershner Gallery in Fairfield, and is a member of the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, The Artists Collective of Westport, Art/Place Gallery, and the Surface Design Artists Association. She is also a founding member of the Drawing Studio and the Sonoran Artists Collective, both in Tucson, Arizona.
Diane is a graduate of SUNY, and studied at the Art Students League in New York, the Roslyn Museum of Art, NY, the Drawing Studio in Tucson, AZ, and privately with Fran Bull and Gerry Samuels. Diane has studied and lectured at Asia Society Museum in New York, and has taught art to students aged 2 to 85+.
Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit used book store, is downtown Westport’s only source for used and antiquarian books, vintage vinyl records, and other media. It is located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from the Westport Library. The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s business hours: Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m. (closed Mondays). Diane Pollack’s work will be on exhibit through July 31, 2021.
The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is an area of the store dedicated to exhibiting the work of community artists year-round, on a rotating basis. Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of the Artists Collective of Westport, is curating these exhibits, which change monthly.
