Art/Place is a non-profit, artist-run gallery that has been in existence for more than 40 years. It features a new show by one or two members every month and several group shows a year.
British-born American artist Jason Pritchard is best known for his seascape oil paintings of New England. He grew up in East Anglia in the UK, a region that inspired British landscape painters John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough who he greatly admires.
His upbringing in his father's family printing business provided him with ample paper to nurture his drawing skills at an early age. In his twenties, Jason moved to London for work and pursued watercolor painting in his free time. In 2005, he moved to New York and spent several years studying oil painting at the Art Students League of New York.
Recent accomplishments include being selected as a 2020 Emerging Artist by Cape Cod Art Magazine, acknowledging his growing body of Cape Cod Seascapes paintings. He has exhibited his work in New York City, Long Island and in his home region of Connecticut.
Jason says, “I paint outdoors in New England year-round, from the frosty embrace of December and January to the scorching heat and humidity of July and August. I love capturing the essence of each season in the form of quick oil sketches. These sketches serve as the inspiration and foundation for my larger canvas oil paintings crafted in my studio. This show captures some of my recent seascapes that relate to the four seasons of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter along our wonderful New England’s coastline.”
