Current Exhibition: A Painterly Progression

The public is invited to a reception and talk by the artist for “A Painterly Progression”, the solo show of paintings of member, Mary Louise Long, at Art/Place Gallery on Sunday, October 16 at 2 to 5 pm. 

Mary Louise Long says, “My abstract paintings and monotypes focus on brilliant colors and powerful forms... Central to this exhibition is “Infinite Journey”, a large scale triptych measuring six by twelve feet.  Cascading hues in this work are reminiscent of a verdant Nature, and while not depicting our visible landscape, the painting brings to mind that which surrounds us every day... My interest in classical mythology, poetry, and anthropology, contributes to this imagery. The work is dependent on process and painterly markings which create that visual awareness of content…a merge of the subjective and objective intellect.”
