by Art/Place members, ELAINE CLAYTON and ALICE KATZ, March 5-31.
Reception March 11 from 2 - 5 PM with complimentary wine, soft drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Talk by the artists at 3:30 PM.
Elaine Clayton is a Westport painter exploring spiritual, intuitive themes in both abstract and figurative forms. She is also an author and creator of books in the mind-body-spirit genre with two new books due out in March 2018, "A LITTLE BIT OF ANGELS," and "A LITTLE BIT OF FAIRIES" (Sterling). She is also the author of MAKING MARKS: Discover the Art of Intuitive Drawing (Simon and Schuster/Beyond Words) and ILLUMINARA INTUITIVE JOURNAL. She is also the author and illustrator of many books for children.
On exhibit is her new painting series, Earth Changes: Pole Shift. She says it is "an exploration of our polarized times as we witness great extremes in nature through weather events, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. and not only in nature, but in human nature. My intent is for the art to call us to harmony in the chaos and to highlight that rather than being extremely polarized as a nation or as individuals, we can survive the times best through conscious awareness and choosing harmony.
The work is influenced by the prophetic words of Native American tribes who long ago predicted these times, and more recently by the 20th Century seer and healer, Edgar Cayce."

Alice has been making art her entire life using fabric, paper, paint, and found objects to create papier mache sculptures, wall hangings, paintings, collages, and photomontages. Her work has been shown in many galleries and museums in Connecticut and is in private collections in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts. It was featured several times on cable television. She is the Program Chair of the Fairfield County Arts Association and is a curator for the Bruce S. Kershner Gallery.
This show includes her work in a variety of wide variety of styles and mediums, all depicting animals. She says, " I love and admire animals and I want people to see that even fierce ones have unique features and are beautiful. My main goal is to create a pleasing and interesting composition with the color, shapes, and texture of animals."
